Spicewood Elementary School Dear Families and Community Members,
This week 4th grade students will be taking the STAAR Writing assessment (April 8th) and 5th grade students will be taking the STAAR Math and Reading assessment (April 8th & 9th) . Although we will not be a closed campus on these days, certain parts of the building will be unavailable. In order to give students four hours of uninterrupted testing time, we have made changes to some grade level lunch times. If you are planning to have lunch with your student, please be sure to check with their classroom teachers for their lunch schedule.
CELEBRATIONS
Math Pentathlon
We had 15 kindergarten and 1st grade students from Spicewood’s Division 1 Math Pentathlon team participate in the Austin area tournament on Saturday, March 30th. They worked hard all year and did an amazing job. Special congratulations to our medalists, Alex (gold), Elise (silver), Maddy (silver) and Brody (bronze). Congratulations to Isaac and Julian for Honorable Mention ribbons. A big thank you to the dedication and time of our volunteer parent coaches, Sarah Belyi and Jaison Joseph. We are so proud of you all. Go Panthers!!

We’re excited bring more awareness to ways we each take an active role in taking care of the planet. During the week of April 22nd, our PTA is sponsoring events throughout the week to get our students AND community to reflect on how our every day actions make an impact. Yearbooks
The deadline for ordering a 2018-2019 yearbook is quickly approaching. The last day is Friday, April 12. Please go to www.treering.com/validate. We would love to include photos from any school/class events or any grade level photos you would like to contribute. Please email full size photos and identify what grade/event they are from. You can also upload pictures on treering.com in the specific event or grade level folder.

Spicewood’s Spring Carnival
The Spicewood Carnival needs your help! We still have LOTS of open slots to volunteer at Carnival and/or to bring a sweet treat for the Cake Walk. Please volunteer if you can! If you have an older child in junior high or high school, we’d love to have them volunteer as well. Thank you!
If you missed our early bird sale, don’t fret because you have one more chance to buy your wristband online. They are for the at-the-door price of $25 and your wristband(s) will be sent home in your child’s Friday folder on the day of Carnival, Friday, April 12th.

The Spicewood Giving Tree
From March 27th through April 12th, the PTA will have the Spicewood Giving Tree set up in the library so that parents can take a “leaf” off of the tree and purchase something that our teachers want/need. Each grade level or special area will have its own color of leaves to help parents quickly select which group(s) they wish to help.
After purchasing your item, please deliver it to the front office by Thursday, April 18th. If you order it online, you can have it sent directly to Spicewood (11601 Olson Drive, 78750).
Teacher Appreciation and Birthday Lunches

Panther Pride Spirit Store
The Panther Pride Spirit Store will be open until April 15. Please be sure to visit the store – there are so many neat items to purchase! For example, t-shirts for field day are still available for purchase. Each grade will have a different colored Field Day with my Peeps shirt to wear on Field Day.

Panther Pride Spirit Store – Hoodie Design Contest
Thank you to all of the design entries that were turned in on last week. There were so many and our students are all so talented! Students voted this past week for their favorite design for the front and back of the pull over and zip up hoodie. Congratulations to 5th grader Josephine for the front pocket and 4th grader Austin for the back design! Order yours today. Pick up is April 29th, but once the store closes we will not have any extras.
