Registration Now Open for 2017-2018

On Friday, May 4th 2018,  our 5th graders celebrated their time in the PYP program with our 2018 PYP Exhibition. On this day, students shared their personal inquiry projects as well as their student portfolios that highlight their time in the IB program here at Spicewood Elementary. To learn more about how “creative expression can inspire people to take action” and the IB program at Spicewood, please be sure to visit our IB Info Page

Spicewood was awarded the RRISD Innovative Schools Grant for the second year in a row, which included funds to support our goal of Promoting a Culture of Innovation: Growing Reflective Open-Minded World Class Innovators (G.R.O.W).  The grant outlined five goals, one of which was to open the newly created Inquiry Lab to the community, inviting parents and families to join their child in curiosity and wonder! Students and their families have a chance to explore all of the tools and technology in the creative space, learning alongside their parents and siblings in a true inquiry-based, experiential model.

Facilitated by our grant funded Innovation Learning Assistant, Mrs. Sarah Day plans learning experiences for each open workshop. Attendees have explored 3D printing and design, creating simple machines, green screen video technology, and building with makerspace supplies and recyclables.

The remaining Open Workshop dates are: April 11th, April 25th, May 9th, and May 23rd. Keep your eye on the digital Friday folder for registration so you too can come checkout the Inquiry Lab!
