CELEBRATIONS
2019-2020 Teacher of the Year
Each year our faculty and staff collectively choose an educator who is an expert in their field and demonstrates leadership and innovation in and outside of the classroom walls that embodies lifelong learning, to be recognized as the Teacher of the Year. I am so extremely proud to announce that Mrs. Laura Reeb has been named the 2019-2020 Teacher of Year for Spicewood Elementary. This is Mrs. Reeb’s 19th year as a Librarian – all of which have been spent at Spicewood Elementary! I have personally witnessed her dedication to students, colleagues and parents. She is knowledgeable, caring, and truly seeks opportunities to collaborate with grade level teachers in order to create authentic learning experiences for students! Let’s wish her luck as she represents Spicewood as a nominee for District Teacher of the Year.Congratulations Mrs. Reeb!
Spicewoood Students Compete at Regional Science Festival
This past weekend, Spicewood Elementary students competed at The Austin Energy Regional Science Festival at the Palmer Events Center. The Regional Science Festival, without a doubt, is one of Texas’ largest regional science fairs with almost 3,000 students from 3rd through 12th grade participating. I am so proud of our students who rose to the top as they competed with students from Central Texas- including Bastrop, Brazos, Burleson, Caldwell, Comanche, Fayette, Lee, Mills, Travis, Washington, Williamson, and northern Hays counties. Of course this was a collective effort- a huge thank you to parents, teachers, and science fair coordinators for the role they have played in supporting our students!
Spicewood Chess Club Students Excel Again!
Congratulations to our students for winning both individual and team trophies at a Regional VI Chess Tournament at Canyon Vista Middle School. We are so very proud of each of you! Thank you Mr. McMullen and Mr. Jones for your leadership and commitment to the Chess Club and it’s members!
THIS WEEK’S NEWS
Join Girl Scout Troop 695 for It’s My Park Day!
Girl Scouts are taking action by adopting our neighborhood park. Please join them as they make a vision board, clean up and start the process of making mile markers for the trails. What a unique opportunity to make a difference in our community .
PTA Meeting
Our next general membership meeting and PTA elections for next year’s Executive Board will take place on Thursday, March 14th at 6pm in the Spicewood library. Please join us for this very important meeting!
Volunteers Needed for Kinder Round-Up
Kindergarten Round-Up needs your help! On Wednesday, March 13, Spicewood hosts Kindergarten Round-Up, the registration day for incoming kindergartners. The administration depends on the PTA to help this event run smoothly. It’s a pretty easy and fun day, and it’s a great way to meet some of the incoming parents and kids. You’ll be greeting families, moving kids and parents through the stations, and making photocopies. The office staff are on hand the entire time to answer questions, and kindergarten teachers give tours. You can sign up for a volunteer shift HERE or please contact Donna Hobbs, Kindergarten Round-Up coordinator, with any questions: donnahobbs@utexas.edu. Thank you!
Morning with Mom
Spicewood Elementary’s first Morning with Mom will be March 29th from 7:00-7:30am. This event is to celebrate mom’s, grandmothers and any lady that has been a special part of your child’s life. More information will be sent home as we get closer to March 29th.
Spicewood’s Spring Carnival
Mark your calendars! Carnival will be held on Friday, April 12th from 4-8pm and we will have food trucks, inflatables, a rock wall, petting zoo, carnival games, cake walk, and face painting!
