Updates from the Principal

Dear Families and Community,

As I reflect on the fall semester, I am filled with gratitude. Thank you for the support and patience you continuously show as I transition into my new role as principal. I am also very appreciative of all the things you have contributed to our campus this past semester-  planning special programs, being a guest speaker, collaborating with teachers, volunteering your time, making sure our campus is beautiful, supporting our campus vision and mission, being a positive partner in education, etc! We could not give our students the incredible opportunities they have each day without you!  I am truly excited to begin the 2019 spring semester with you!

THIS WEEK’S NEWS

New Administrative Associate for Spicewood Elementary
Mrs. Torres, our former administrative associate has accepted a job as a Grant Accountant for Round Rock ISD. Although we are very sad to see her go, we realize this is a wonderful opportunity for her and wish her the best of luck.  Having said this, I am  excited to announce that we have hired Mrs. Kristin Martinez as the new Administrative Associate for Spicewood Elementary. Mrs. Martinez has been a part of our Spicewood family for two years, as an educational assistant interventionist and most recently as an office assistant. Mrs. Martinez earned a business degree from Texas State University in 2003 and has 3 years experience in management. I feel confident she will do a remarkable job.

Spicewood Teaching Garden Update
Last Saturday, our Teaching Garden Chair, Mrs. Doerle, and PTA planted planted the following – broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, celery, dill, cilantro, spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, red lettuce, arugula, artichokes, red swiss chard, yellow swiss chard and flowers. We are very excited to have a winter crop but desperately need volunteers to help maintain the garden for this semester. Please consider signing up to be a weekly volunteer in the school garden! Your responsibilities will include watering, weeding, and maintaining our garden. This is a great opportunity for your family to be a part of this special addition to our school. One World, One Night
Would you like a chance to travel the world without buying a plane ticket? What would be better than to give our students and their families a passport to cultures around the world? Please join us for One World One Night on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Spicewood Elementary.

At the festival you will find tables hosted by fellow Spicewood parents sharing their cultures by exhibiting artifacts and traditional clothing, teaching crafts and games and providing culinary samples. Last Spring the event featured Korea, China, Israel, Ethiopia, Philippines, India, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Italy, Peru, France, Bahamas, India, China, Ethiopia, Korea and Iran. Each year the number of countries grow and we encourage all cultures at Spicewood Elementary to consider participating in this “One World One Night” Festival. It is a great way to introduce our students to cultures from around the world and embrace the IB education.

This event can not be possible without your participation, if you would like further information or are interested in participating in this event, please do not hesitate to email us at Spicewoodoneworldonenight@gmail.com.
