Robotics Student Success at FLL Qualifier

Three groups of students participated in this year’s First Lego League qualifier, where they had an opportunity to work and create together to solve a common problem. Team Immortals won the Core Values Award. The special Core Values Award is given to the team which demonstrates great team work, respect, enthusiasm and spirit of friendly competition. In addition to the core values and robot missions, the team worked on coming up with an innovative solution for this year’s research project challenge of exploring and enhancing human interaction with animals. They worked to bring awareness to the global issues of the vanishing species by running an awareness campaign for the native endangered bird Golden-Cheeked Warbler. Team Immortals will now compete in the Central Texas Regional FLL Invitational Tournament on February 25th, 2017.

Additionally, two other fifth grade Spicewood teams led by IB Coordinator, Ms. Vance and technology specialist, Ms. Haney competed in the Robot Game, Core Value challenge, and designed innovative solutions to stop elephant poaching and shark bycatch that is harming the shark population worldwide. Students designed websites, spoke with conservationists, and used the 3D printers to print prototypes of their new inventions. Be sure to learn more by visiting their sites!
