THIS WEEK’S NEWS
Exhibition Process Update for Parents of 5th grade students
Over the next couple of weeks, I would like to keep all parents informed of what their students have been working on as they move through the inquiry process and prepare for exhibition.
This past week, students chose their topic, decided on groups or independent action projects, wrote their Central Ideas and Lines of Inquiry, reviewed the Exhibition Rubric in class. A parent signature on the rubric was optional. This week, students will be given time to research, have a library lesson on the difference between internet resources and database resources and have their first meeting with their assigned mentor!
Coming soon! Our first online school store. There will be so many items available to show your Panther Pride! Also, look in your students Friday folder for details about designing our Spicewood Hoodie for this year. This store is a fundraiser for 4th grade to go to Outdoor School, so let’s support our Panthers!
Join PTA (Parent Teacher Association)!
We are so close to achieving the Platinum Award! Spicewood Elementary PTA currently has 750 Members (88% representation of our student body). Help us reach our goal of 100%
representation and join today. Together we CAN back the future!! Thank you for supporting Spicewood PTA.
Our next general membership meeting and PTA elections for next year’s Executive Board will take place on Thursday, March 14th at 6pm in the Spicewood library. Please join us for this very important meeting!
AME/SWE Sister School 1st Annual Soccer
The AME/SWE Sister School 1st Annual Soccer Game has been cancelled.
Please join us March 5th at Moonies Burgers from 5-8pm. All take outs, deliveries and dine-ins will be taken into account for proceeds towards Spicewood PTA. (Don’t forget to mention Spicewood at checkout) All of the 2nd grade teachers, a few staff members and PTA representatives will be present for part of the night. And save the date for the a Spirit Night on May 14th at Phil’s Icehouse.
Adopt the Teaching Garden
Thank you to all of the families and groups who have signed up to take care of our Teaching Garden this year! But we still have some openings! Please consider adopting the garden for a week. To sign up, please visit this page.
On STEAM day first graders learned about composting and how worms help convert organic matter into the nutrients plants need to thrive. The Roots and Shoots after-school club installed a “vermicomposter” to support beneficial worm activity in our garden. It is a partially buried pipe that has holes drilled along the bottom. The top can be lifted and food scraps placed inside for composting worms to eat and convert to worm castings (compost). Feeding worms is just plain fun, but it’s also a way to divert waste from the landfill and promote healthier plants.
Volunteers Needed for Kinder Round-Up
Kindergarten Round-Up needs your help! On Wednesday, March 13, Spicewood hosts Kindergarten Round-Up, the registration day for incoming kindergartners. The administration depends on the PTA to help this event run smoothly. It’s a pretty easy and fun day, and it’s a great way to meet some of the incoming parents and kids. You’ll be greeting families, moving kids and parents through the stations, and making photocopies. The office staff are on hand the entire time to answer questions, and kindergarten teachers give tours. You can sign up for a volunteer shift HERE or please contact Donna Hobbs, Kindergarten Round-Up coordinator, with any questions: firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
Morning with Mom
We count ourselves LUCKY and want to invite mom’s, grandmothers, aunts and any lady that has been a special part of your child’s life to say thank you for your daily support. There will be photo booths, magical decorations, and memories made while enjoying a light breakfast with your special student. Please rsvp here https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showRSVPSignUp/10c0f44a5ad2aa5fe3-morning.
Spicewood’s Spring Carnival
