Attitudes: Digital Citizenship

Whether it be online research for a project about animal habitats in second grade or collaboration on a Google slides presentation in third grade, our students have an ever increasing online presence. Spicewood students are given a multitude of learning opportunities to be principled digital citizens, learning how the Learner Profile and attitudes carry over from our physical classrooms to cyberspace.

Our students learned more about what it means to be a digital citizen with Mrs. Haney, our campus technology specialist. Classes were guided in reflective conversations about their role in making good choices as a digital citizen and collaborated with one another as they shared ways that daily choices online have an impact on our communities and world.

Second graders were challenged with the task of creating a comic with a Super Digital Citizen, applying what they’ve learned about digital citizenship throughout the past few weeks.

Conversations about being a digital citizen do not stop here, however, classroom teachers are always referring back to the Learner Profile as students continue to use technology in the classroom to research, create, and share new learning throughout their units of inquiry.

What can you do @ home?

  • Have follow up conversations with your child about what it means to be a digital citizen
  • Get involved and interact with your child while they are online and/or using technology to research, share, and collaborate. Learn more about how they are using these tools and how you can help further educate and guide them to do it with an IB mindset.
